Sultan sets up palace in Malacca

This article is from The Star Online (http://thestar.com.my) URL: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2005/12/22/nation/12930996&sec=nation Thursday December 22, 2005 "Sultan" sets up palace in Malacca PETALING JAYA: Self-proclaimed "Sultan" of Malacca, Raja Noor Jan Shah Raja Tuah, has set up his own "palace" in Malacca, with a team of officials, to meet people he calls his "loyal subjects". His secretary Azri Sapian said the "palace" at Bukit Punggor was a gift from the people. "There could not have been a better choice than a 70-year-old traditional Malacca house," he said yesterday. Property businessman Raja Noor Jan Shah, 48, claims to be a direct descendant of Sultan Mahmud Shah and the 44th Sultan of Malacca. He held an "investiture ceremony" with 500 guests in Kuala Lumpur last month. His claim to the throne, however, has been dismissed by Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam. __

Cartoons show how IT is in Asia

By VIVIENNE PAL SEE Yew Lee still seems a little dazed although it has been a year since he was selected by the Malaysian Cartoonists' Association (Pekartun) to take part in the 9th Asian Cartoon Exhibition. The exhibition aims to introduce Asian society and culture by way of a medium that is accessible and understandable to all – cartoons. Themed “How’s IT in Asia?”, the annual showcase of one-frame cartoons is jointly organised by The Japan Foundation and The National Library of Malaysia, and is currently on display at the National Library. “I was a little surprised that of all the other cartoonists, they selected me to represent the country in this exhibition,” See said during the launch on Nov 10. One of See’s works called ‘Charm of Internet.’ “I didn't expect to be noticed and felt somewhat inadequate; my favourite topic is politics and I've only been working on my children's comic series (Ge Mei Lia) since its first publication three years ago,” he added. Local animators just not making enough money

SINGAPORE: Financing is probably one of the biggest dilemmas faced by animators in Malaysia, said animation and filmmaking veteran Hassan Muthalib. With about 40 years of experience in the business, Hassan said local broadcasting houses pay too little for each half-hour episode or cartoon. According to him, the RM40,000 currently paid by RTM was “too low” as, ideally, a good quality cartoon should rake in RM250,000 per half-hour episode. CARTOON FLICK: Hassan posing beside a poster of ‘Silat Legenda’, Malaysia’s first full-length animated feature, which he directed. “I hear that even then, RTM wants to reduce the amount,” said Hassan, who is best known for the Sang Kancil series of animated short films in the 1980s. The part-time lecturer who teaches at One Academy in Kuala Lumpur said Malaysia’s animation Industry was at the crossroads compared with already established key players like Japan and Korea. Hassan said Malaysian animators should focus more on being storytellers rather tha

Why? Have you ever wondered why?

Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting weak? Why do banks charge a fee on “insufficient funds” when they know there is not enough? Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet? Why doesn’t glue stick to the bottle? Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection? Why doesn’t Tarzan have a beard? Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him? Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets? Whose idea was it to put an “S” in the word “lisp”? If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes? Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white? Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale? Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized? Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then re

Multi-Language Web Site Development

Multi-Language Support Would you like to provide multi-language support on your site? In this article we discuss three different ways in which you could organize your site to support multiple languages. We do not say that the three ways discussed in this article are the only ways of achieving the goal but this could be a good starting point. The three methods discussed in this article are: * Dynamic Content Generation * Site Replication, and * Selective Replication Let us now discuss these three methods, and also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each. METHOD 1 Dynamic Content Generation Although this method is a very complicated way of organizing your site to support different languages, it could be an option if you have only two languages, or even three to support on a fast server. It is also a good idea to use this option only if your site is not huge. In this method all the text of the site is stored in a database. Every page carries a variable (a session vari

How To Find Ebooks : One first trick

Just put a '/' or forward slash on the end of these queries and Google will not ignore it (i.e. intext:rapidshare.de/*/*/*/). With Rapidshare, you don't need the wildcards because anything that comes after "rapidshare.de/files/" is going to be a number followed by the name of the actual file. QFile query is the same as the Rapidshare query. The following will work and return less noise than what you have

buat lawak ajer ni... --------------------------------------- Commandment 1. Marriages are made in heaven. But so again, are thunder and lightning. Commandment 2. If you want your wife to listen and pay strict attention to every word you say, talk in your sleep. Commandment 3. Marriage is grand -- and divorce is at least 100 grand! Commandment 4. Married life is very frustrating. In the first year of marriage, the man speaks and the woman listens. In the second year, the woman speaks and the man listens. In the third year, they both speak and the neighbors listen. Commandment 5. When a man opens the door of his car for his wife, you can be sure of one thing: Either the car is new or the wife is. Commandment 6. Marriage is when a man and woman become as one; The trouble starts when they try to decide which one. Commandment 7. Before marriage, a man will lie awake all night thinking about Something you say. After marriage, he will fall asleep before you finish. Commandment 8. Every man w
