His secretary Azri Sapian said the "palace" at Bukit Punggor was a gift from the people. "There could not have been a better choice than a 70-year-old traditional Malacca house," he said yesterday. Property businessman Raja Noor Jan Shah, 48, claims to be a direct descendant of Sultan Mahmud Shah and the 44th Sultan of Malacca. He held an "investiture ceremony" with 500 guests in Kuala Lumpur last month. His claim to the throne, however, has been dismissed by Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam. __

Cartoons show how IT is in Asia

The exhibition aims to introduce Asian society and culture by way of a medium that is accessible and understandable to all – cartoons. Themed “How’s IT in Asia?”, the annual showcase of one-frame cartoons is jointly organised by The Japan Foundation and The National Library of Malaysia, and is currently on display at the National Library. “I was a little surprised that of all the other cartoonists, they selected me to represent the country in this exhibition,” See said during the launch on Nov 10. Local animators just not making enough money

SINGAPORE: Financing is probably one of the biggest dilemmas faced by animators in Malaysia, said animation and filmmaking veteran Hassan Muthalib. With about 40 years of experience in the business, Hassan said local broadcasting houses pay too little for each half-hour episode or cartoon. According to him, the RM40,000 currently paid by RTM was “too low” as, ideally, a good quality cartoon should rake in RM250,000 per half-hour episode. The Star Online: Reggie's colourful characters

SUBANG JAYA: Cartoonist Reggie Lee has created five characters which will be featured as mascots at this year’s Pesta Ekspo Pulau Pinang. It is the first time that a cartoonist has been commissioned to design mascots for the annual one-month-long celebration. Lee, 50, said he received a call from Pesta organising chairman Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail about two months ago. “When he conveyed the task, I was thrilled, being an anak Pulau Pinang,” said Lee, who also draws cartoons for The Star. Kegilaan animasi hasilkan Fakulti Kartun Oleh TARMIZI ABDUL RAHIM (Yang membuat liputan perkembangan animasi di Jepun baru-baru ini) BERMULA tahun depan, Universiti Kyoto Seika di Kyoto, Jepun akan mencatat sejarah tersendiri di kalangan institusi pendidikan di negara itu dan dunia apabila mempunyai Fakulti Kartun atau Manga. Manga disebut `mangga' oleh masyarakat Jepun merujuk kepada kartun dan wataknya, komik serta animasi yang dihasilkan oleh para pelukisnya. Fakulti itu akan menyediakan latihan dan kursus secara sistematik dan intelek kepada pelajarnya dalam bidang seni lukisan, kartun, penerbitan dan animasi manga Jepun.
